We had the joy and privilege of attending Haritha and Karthik’s wedding ceremony in San Antonio, TX this past weekend. Haritha and Yvonne had been friends since High School and were also roommates at UT Austin for all four years they were there. We knew this would be a especially joyous occasion and it was also the first Indian wedding we had both attended.

The ceremony started soon after the Baraat with the actual marriage occurring at 8:55 AM on the dot.
“Setting a date for a wedding is an extremely complex process of calculation of planetary positions to match two variables. The variables are the planetary positions at the exact time of birth of bride and groom. The constellation of planets and their relationships should match in a harmonious way when the groom touches the bride and looks into her eyes while the verses are being recited by the priests. This specific time has to be in only certain lunar months considered auspicious for a wedding.”
Blessings were given by the wedding guests by placing rice on the heads of the newly wedded couple.
Yvonne had the privilege of being a bridesmaid in the wedding. She had some henna designs painted on her hands the night before and looked beautiful in her traditional Indian Sari.
After a short break in the afternoon, everyone reconvened for a beautiful reception full of delicious food, heart-warming speeches and dancing.
