For a while now, we’ve been wanting to make a nice accent wall and coat rack right at the entrance to our house. Yvonne made a great plywood bench a while back, but it was just sitting against a plain white wall. After doing some research, we found a Lowe’s video on a bathroom renovation that we both really liked. We stole the idea of using Peel & Stick wood laminate and copper tacks as the base layer of the accent wall. Naturally, we went to Lowe’s to buy the materials.
The great thing about working on Peel & Stick laminate is that you only need a utility knife to make the cuts. We started on the bottom left corner and worked our way up. The only complicated cuts we had to make were around the electrical outlet and the top row where we had to cut the panels in half. After finishing the panels, we pre-drilled the holes for the copper tacks. The tacks ended up not only being decorative, but also helped keep the panels in place.
To put above the hooks, we bought a plain white floating shelf. We decided to go with four coat hooks spaced evenly apart. At Home Depot, we found these really cute wall mountable succulents which helps add some color to the wall. We finished the project right in time for the cold front that came in this weekend!
