A new 8 core Mac Pro came out this morning. Since a lot of people ask me for advice about when to buy a Mac, I found this site to be very useful. It has the previous release dates of all the Apple hardware products and whether or not it is a favorable time to buy that product. It also has data on average days between new product releases. I’m looking to upgrade my Macbook Pro and according to the site, it’s been 162 days since the last Macbook Pro update and 182 day average between updates. Hopefully they’ll release one 20 days from now ;).

So The Reading Center had 4 laptops of which they thought were broker and they asked me to confirm it. Turns out that one of the powerbooks they asked me to check had a bad display and another powerbook had a bad logic board. Since they were both out of warranty, I got permission to swap the displays. It was a pretty easy process except for the fact that the airport card antennae cord wouldn’t reach to the airport card. This is the picture of the bad display and the bad logic board.

My 360 had been acting up as of late on certain games. It would freeze on NBA2k7, Gears of War, and sometimes on NCAA College Football 07. My warranty originally ended only 30 days after I purchased it, but just recently Microsoft extended that warranty period to a year. Good thing I called into get it repaired on Wednesday of last week because the warranty ended 2 days later. Whew.

I found wikimapia today while bored at work. This kept me busy for most the day, mapping out what I know of the Austin Area. Check it out and add onto to the cities that you know.

I helped Jeff set up JeffreyMa.com the other day and I realized it was dirt cheap to get another domain and make it redirect. It was only $3 through iPowerWeb to buy a domain for a year. So just in case I want to start using EnochLai.com in the future, I have purchased that domain. For all you Xanga users, I don’t think it’d be a bad idea to buy a domain name that you may want and just redirect it to your Xanga. A while back I had toyed with the idea of getting i.com so I could get the email address, enochl@i.com. That would’ve been great.

We had a crazy DS Lan Party last night at my place. There were 16+ people with DSes, both Lite and “Phat.” First game we played was a 16 player Tetris DS Ladder. I ended up playing Drew in the final round and he beat me 2-0. After that there was Mario Cart DS, Bomberman, Big Brain Academy, and also some Mario Mini games. Overall our first DS Lan was a success, looking to invite some more people next time :D.

So there were rumors this morning that the DS lite was on sale at some local Walmarts and Targets. The release date for the lite is June 11th so getting it 11 days early would be nice. Fortunately Aaron was on top of things and already had his girlfriend in stores to buy 3 of them, one of which became mine. Soon after she bought them, the stores realized that they had released it early and quickly took them off their shelves. I took some pictures and threw them on my flickr.

I had been hounding Campus Computer all week about when my Macbook Pro would be coming in. I had almost given up hope that I would get it in before the long weekend. But finally at around 12:45 today, they called and let me know that I could pick mine up from the store. I rushed over and grabbed it, switched out the 80gb drive for a 120gb and added an extra gig ‘o ram. Now just need to wait for everything to finish transferring….

I finally gave in and bought a MacBook Pro. The College of Education just negotiated a bundle for students/faculty/staff that ends up costing $500 cheaper than retail. So I get a Macbook Pro 1.83ghz for $1825 including Applecare. If you bought a retail Macbook Pro with applecare it would cost $2300. I just have to wait for it to ship to Campus Computers now. Anyone want dibs on my Powerbook? I’ll sell for around $1300.

WHEW I’m getting the 2.0 ghz now since apple just bumped the processors up, and still for the same price.
