Thoughts on the Game
Wanted to jot down some thoughts on the game while it’s still fresh in my mind.
- The Rose Bowl is old, run down, cramped but an absolutely unique and amazing venue. I am happy to have made it there for such a huge game. The atmosphere was electric.
- After Longhorns fans realized McCoy was out, we rallied around Garrett Gilbert. At the beginning of every offensive possession during the TV time outs, Longhorn fans would chant Garrett’s last name over and over until they lined up to play. One of the few times I felt we could will a player to greatness during the game and Garrett kept getting better and better through out the game.
- I absolutely love the way we competed during the 2nd half. I was actually optimistic during half time but the way we rallied was quite surprising. We were truly a 2nd half team this year.
- Those 10 minutes from when Shipley scored a touchdown to when we recovered the “onside” kick was one of the more magical moments in UT football that I’ve witnessed first hand. The come back in the Fiesta Bowl last year was special but I expected it to happen. This was special because we were riding into the unknown with a freshman quarterback leading us.
- I have no regrets about going to the game. It was worth it to cheer on our team and I was proud of the way we fought. The future looks bright, looking forward to next year. Hook ‘em!
Bike Commute

Used my GPS program on my iPhone to map out my bike commute to work this morning. Not bad compared to my old car commute from up north. Follow this link to view the full route in google maps.

Avg Speed: 12.7 mph
Max Speed: 27.0 mph
Avg Pace: 04′ 43″ per mile
Min Altitude: 455 ft

Fiesta Bound
Pete and I will be heading to Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl to watch the Horns play the Buckeyes. We’ve been trying to find things to do there but with no luck. I think we may hit up a casino but if you have any suggestions, let me know!
Longhorn Medal Count

If UT was a country, we’d be tied for 15th in the medal count with Canada. 8 Golds and 1 Silver so far with our divers and track athletes still to compete. Hook ‘em!
Fantasy Football Keepers
Last year I played in my first keeper league for fantasy football. I lost in the finals to Phil Kwang. This year it’s time to reload and I think I got a pretty good set of players to keep. We can keep up to 4 players, so I listed them out with the round that I drafted them in last year.
1. Frank Gore
4. Clinton Portis
5. Andre Johnson
6. Tony Romo
Nike+ Idea
I just thought of a random idea for a new iPhone Nike+ application. Without adding any existing hardware, they can make a Nike+ Ride application for Bicyclists. When you run the application, it would track your distance and speed via GPS data over time and graph it just like Nike+ Run. Get on this Nike.
Rookie of the Year
Congrats to Kevin Durant for winning rookie of the year honors. I really hope the Sonics stay in Seattle. Seattle > Oklahoma City any day.
VY vs. Texans
I’ve been reading a lot of forums this week about the dilemma that Houston Texans fans are going through. Cheer for the Texans who’ve disappointed them these past few years or cheer for the greatest modern athlete to come out of Houston, VY. I find it all pretty hilarious. I can’t wait to see Reliant stadium filled with burnt orange this Sunday and to hear the crowd erupt when VY scores a TD. Hook ‘em VY.
Another Run…
We’re going for another IM championship this year. Our Co-ed team, The Mighty Fightin’ Sandcrabs, got bumped up to the A/B playoffs this year. Yesterday we won our first playoff game. Our next game is our Thursday at 6 PM against a pretty tough team.
I’m also playing on a Men’s team, Blazing Saddles. We played yesterday too and ended up winning. Men’s is always a bit tougher once you get deeper into the playoffs because then I’m guarding like 6′4 guys with 42 inch verticals.
